On the weekends I especially like to make a trip to Central Market North Lamar. This is an Austin form of paradise and worth every cent you spend on the gas to get here.
Here's how the ideal trip should go down, based off of the visits I've made here so many that I've lost count:
-
Make sure it's one of those lovely, warm, sunny Austin Saturdays (or Sundays).
-
Drive down to Central Market, but wait: park in the parking lot of the BBQ or whatever restaurant across the road from it. Don't waste your time trying to find a spot in the insanely crowded Central Market parking lot. Just don't bother, trust me.
-
Go into the doors on the right-hand side, and you'll find the cafeteria. Get in line and order a Turkey Sandwich.
-
Take a lovely walk around the mini-reservoir, admiring the nature and the pond and that one tree with a bench underneath it while you wait for your delicious sandwich to be ready.
-
Grab your sandwich and a glass of water (ask them first) and all the condiments and utensils you desire. Find a seat outside by the playground. Savor your sandwich while just basking in the warm glow of the sun and happy children playing around and happy couples in love.
If you come by in the evening during October or November or some other times during the Fall, they'll even have live music out on the patio! And what with Austing being the live music capital of the world, every single band is spectacular. What more could you ask for?
Usually I'm very critical, but Central Market scores on all marks. The food is outstanding and the best value by a long shot. Thank me later.
